“Another word to describe window coverings is window blinds. Window blinds can be roller blinds, shutters, roman blinds and a few other names. I mention this because once a prospect called to set up an appointment. The customer service representative asked what type of window covering they were interested in? The prospect replied window blinds. When the customer service rep repeated the conversation back to me one can imagine the comical situation. It was something like The Three Stooges, baseball episode who’s on first base.
To make a long story short, I went to the prospect’s home with many samples for them to choose from. Perhaps more than usual since the last thing I wanted was for the prospect to be disappointed. The prospect asked for window blinds and that’s what I was bringing, many window blinds.
On that visit the prospect became a client. And they ordered wooden shutters in the family room and roman blinds in the dining room. And since then they have become repeat clients. Whenever we see each other we joke about the window blinds conversation.” (Cadillac Shutters & Blinds employee)

- The customer/prospect is always right, no matter what.
- Always be prepared. If someone isn’t in this industry, who would have thought window blinds to one person could mean wooden shutters to someone else.
- Always be respectful. From the initial conversation between the customer service representative and the prospect, the conversation was respectful. The rep knew the prospect might not have known all the different options to choose from and wasn’t about to question the prospect more on it.
